Dollarstore ups the pace

Discount retail is growing in Europe, and Swedish Dollarstore is leading the way in the Nordics. Alongside Prisma, they are identifying future property locations and reaching new customer groups.

Dollarstore is Prisma’s largest tenant, with 20% of the total rental value. Together, the companies opened one new store in Sweden and two in Denmark in 2024, and broke ground for a further two projects in Sweden.

Growth in the Danish market, where the chain operates as Big Dollar, is an objective for the next few years. “There has been great interest from customers since the first two stores opened in 2022,” says Dollarstore’s Chief Expansion Officer, Fredrik Holmström.

“The trend is evident across Europe, with more customer groups discovering discount retail. It’s not just about spending less on your shopping, but about being a smart consumer regardless of your finances.”

In 2025, Prisma plans to establish several Dollarstore stores in Sweden and Big Dollar in Denmark.

“We want to be available to as many people as possible, and store location is of course crucial. We look at the whole country, and ideally want to set up in or near out-of-town retail parks with high throughput, which makes Prisma the right partner for us,” Fredrik Holmström concludes.
